Abstract
Power transformer is the core equipment of the power system, and its safe and stable operation determines the reliability of the power system. The lifetime of paper insulation determines the overall life of the transformer. In this paper, the mechanism of increasing the crystallinity of insulating paper and fibres is analyzed. The change pattern of the aggregation state of the crystalline and amorphous regions of cellulose during thermal aging and its influence pattern on the crystallinity was studied, and the mechanism of the increase of crystallinity was obtained. The results show that the main reasons for the increase in fiber crystallinity are the recrystallization of the amorphous region of cellulose during thermal aging and the accompanying increase in its degree of order. This result provides a new way of thinking and a practical method for the aging assessment of paper insulation in transformers.
