Abstract
Purpose/Aim
In order to find out the insulation defect of the power cable in the process of design and production, the partial discharge measurement must be carried out for power cable factory test, and IEC 60885-3 specifies the test methods for partial discharge measurements on lengths of extruded power cable in factory test. According to IEC 60885-3, If a terminal impedance is not used, it is necessary to determine the properties of the test circuit with respect to superposition of travelling waves, and a double pulse generator must be use to plot a double pulse diagram which illustrates the superposition perfermance of travelling waves.
Experimental/Modeling methods
In this paper, A double pulse generator has been design based on the requirements of IEC60885-3, and simulation model of a double pulse generator is established by multisim to obtain circuit parameters.
Results/discussion
a prototype of a double pulse generator is set up, and the simulation and experimental results show that a double pulse generator can produce double pulse which is agree with the requirements of IEC60885-3.
Conclusions
This paper designs and develops a double pulse generator which can produce double pulse which is agree with the requirements of IEC60885-3.
