Prof. Ryo Akasaka, Kyushu Sangyo University, received a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Kyushu University in 2000. Since 2017 he has been the chairperson of the technical committee on refrigerants in JSRAE. His research focuses on refrigerant properties, particularly their modeling based on fundamental equations of state. He has developed various equations of state for low GWP refrigerants over the last decade, some of which were adopted in REFPROP and are widely used in the refrigeration industry. Prof. Akasaka is the author or co-author of more than 60 peer-reviewed papers. Most of these were international collaborations with scientists in other countries, including the U.S., Germany, Italy, and China. Recently he has published new equations of state for R1234yf, R1233zd(E), and R1336mzz(Z). These equations are now international standards in the updated ISO/DIS 17584 (Refrigerant properties).
