Abstract
Mountain highways are an important part of road traffic in many countries, but accidents occurred frequently because of the complex environmental conditions and driving speeds. Therefore, long-term skid resistance evaluation and driving safety warnings of mountain highways will be of great significance. In this study, three types of pavements were studied, namely the Asphalt Concrete (AC-13), the Open-graded Friction Course (OGFC-13), and Semi-flexible Pavement (SFP). Based on a novel accelerated polishing equipment independently invented by Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), the dynamic friction coefficient deterioration of the pavement was analyzed under the coupling influence of different speeds, pavement type, and service life. The mountain highway safety evaluation system was established based on “CarSim” software under the different road slopes and line types. The results show that the SFP has better skid resistance properties than other pavement types. Driving speed should be adjusted in real-time according to different road conditions.
