The transportation industry, as an essential service industry, is closely related to macroeconomic development. The freight services index in Henan province (HNFSI) is proposed based on the transportation services index (TSI). The HNFSI index is used to analyze the correlation, periodicity, and the impact of COVID-19 between the development of economic and transportation. The results show that the correlation coefficient between the HNFSI index and the Growth Rate of Industrial Added Value which represented trends in economic development is as high as 0.745. The freight transportation demand increases with a certain periodicity and regularity. Due to the influence of the COVID-19, the HNFSI in January 2020 decreases by 37.7% compared to the same period of 2019, and in February decreases by 56.3%. In general, the epidemic shows a tremendous short-term impact on the transportation industry. However, after March 2020, the freight service is greatly improved.
