Abstract
With the rapid growth of motor vehicle ownership, the research of the urban traffic environment pollution is particularly topical. The traditional signal timing focuses on the minimization of travel time and delays but ignores the impact of vehicle exhaust on residents’ health. This paper monetizes the health loss of residents caused by vehicle exhaust, the driving time of vehicles on road sections and the delay time at intersections. Based on the generalized impedance model, an environment-oriented optimization model of urban road network signal is proposed. To evaluate this model, we compare and analyze the differences between the traditional BPR (US Bureau of Public Roads) model and the proposed model under different traffic demands in a real road network. The result shows that our model improves the operation level of the whole road network when the demand between the origin-destination pair is 1000pcu and 1500pcu.
