Generally, carbon-containing wastes include coke oven gas, waste raw gas, organic volatiles, various residues of oil refineries, municipal waste, etc., and are important resources that can be utilized. The utilization of carbon-containing waste is of great significance for saving resources, CO2 emissions reduction and environmental protection. This study focuses on analyzing the current developmental situation of carbon-containing waste utilization in China, and introduces key technologies and industrial applications for non-catalytic partial oxidation of coke oven gas and waste raw gas to syngas. It also analyses the latest progress of industrial applications on hydrogen production from refinery residue gasification, and explores the feasibility of municipal waste gasification. Finally, a brief outlook is made on the coupled utilization of carbon-containing waste and renewable energy.
