Abstract

Rotational modulation has been observed in different space-science data at Saturn and has invoked tremendous interests of the community. This work completes the modulation analysis of Saturn radio emissions by finishing the analysis of 20 kHz narrowband emissions and comprehensively comparing the modulation features among the regularly observed radio components: 5 and 20 kHz narrowband emissions and Saturn kilometric radiation. Here, we show the rotational modulation features of the 20 kHz narrowband emissions, which display similar characteristics to the 5 kHz narrowband emissions. The relative phase differences between the different radio components reveal a “phase lock” relation, suggesting these clock-like modulated emissions are triggered at different local times and in sequence of the phase relation. These results in turn provide new insights to the large-scale Saturnian magnetospheric dynamics where the physical processes triggering these radio emissions also take place in order.
