| In this study, a new design for a tactile device that can provide improved tactile function compared to the existing tactile design using MR is proposed. The proposed design is based on a hybrid concept combining magnetorheological fluid and magnetorheological elastomer. The tactile characteristics are realized by the interaction between the yield stress characteristics of magnetorheological fluid and the stiffness characteristics of magnetorheological elastomer. In addition, motion and stiffness can be implemented in real time according to the strength of the magnetic field and the given frequency. Experiments and simulations are conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed tactile device. The results show that the proposed device can fully realize the tactile performance. This study suggests that the proposed tactile device can be a promising solution for various industries that include controllers. |
