Enhanced electron and radiation generation by micro-nano structured targets driven by petawatt laser pulses

The fast electrons and radiation sources produced in the interaction of ultra-intense laser and solid targets have broad applications in materials science, industrial detection, basic physical researches, etc. Micro-nano structured targets can effectively improve the quality of radiation sources because of the enhanced absorption efficiency of laser energy and electron guiding. To control and optimize the interaction of ultra-intense laser and structured targets, microchannel target and nanobrush arrays are proposed to enhance the generation of both energetic electron and proton beams. By theoretical analyses and numerical simulations, the physical mechanism and parameter optimization are obtained. Experiments results verified the increased yield and energy of particle beams, and the guiding and collimation effect of target structures. The findings provide a feasible route to control and optimize the laser-driven radiation sources by modulating the target configuration and parameters, which is of great significance in researches and applications of compact X-ray source, inertial confinement fusion, ion acceleration and so on.
