Thermal smoothing effect in indirect-direct hybrid-drive ICF

In indirect-direct hybrid-drive(IDHD) inertial confinement fusion(ICF), there is spherical hamonics function disturbance in initial direct driven laser beams especially the disturbance induced by low order mode driven asymmetry. Whether the radiation ablated large scale coronal plasma(~300um) can effectively smooth the asymmetry is crucial to ignition. Thermal smoothing effect of spherial hamonics function disturbance in IDHD ICF is investigated using radiation hydrodynamic code LARED-S. The smoothing efffect for every order mode disturbance is very good, and the high order mode disturbance is almost smoothed. The smoothing effect in our simulation is better than that of “Cloudy day” model.
