A conservative MHD scheme on Lagrangian grids for MagLIF hydrodynamic simulations
Abstract Accepted
Shijia Chen / Shenzhen Technology University
Considering the directly driven Z-pinch device magnetized linear inertial fusion (MagLIF), a resistive magnetohydrodynamics code has been developed. The specific expression of magnetic field evolution and electron heat transport equations are present for the MagLIF process, where the electrothermal terms are taken into consideration which transport the magnetic flux to the outside when a temperature gradient exists. The corresponding differential equations are discretized in cylindrical Lagrangian coordinates. The axial magnetic field and electron heat transport are implemented into the one-dimensional radiation-hydrodynamics code MULTI-IFE. An integrated one-dimensional (1D) model is built, which includes the terms of magnetization, laser preheating, liner compression, electrothermal effects and fusion reaction. The beryllium liner implosions are used to verify the magnetohydrodynamic module and results show good agreement with the simulations of LASNEX and HYDRA codes. The achievements are substantial foundations for further exploring about MagLIF technology.
