High precise diagnosis is an important technology of laser inertial confinement fusion (ICF) experimental research. The main function for precise diagnostic is to measure various parameters produced by laser target coupling, such as radiation time, scale, spectrum, intensities, and other dimensions, to obtain regular understanding of physical change process and parameters in ICF experiments. The statement for successful measurement is that the diagnostic system can align the target about ~1 mm with several hundred microns accuracy in a vacuum target chamber with a diameter of several meters. At the same time, to ensure the operation efficiency, the diagnostic system is required to be quickly replaced and accurately aligned with the target.

For this requirements, automatic alignment technology based on laser tracker is proposed in recent years. In this report, we will introduce our new established three-dimensional coordinate network between target, diagnostic system and diagnostic instrument manipulator (DIM). Through the operation mode of offline calibration and online reposition, we can measure the position and attitude of the diagnostic system in real time and control DIM to adjust automatically, so that the diagnostic system can be accurately aligned with the target. At present, this technology has been tested in a laser device. The automatic repositioning accuracy is better than 30 microns and the automatic positioning accuracy is about 500 microns. There is high potential to apply our technology to different diagnostic systems, and to improve the automatic positioning accuracy to less than 200 microns for various ICF and high density physics experiments in future.
