Next-generation of Z-Pinch Facility aim for ICF
Abstract Accepted
Meng Wang / Institute of Fluid Physics, China
The Z-pinch Fusion-Fission hybrid Reactor (Z-FFR) which combines the advantages of fusion and fission reactions together is a promising way to resolve the energy shortage issue. In a Z-FFR, the local-ignition volume-burn target will be ignited by a repetitive pulsed power machine, and the released energy of dozens of MJ will be amplified by the fission reaction. In order to demonstrate the concept of local-ignition volume-burn target, a pulsed power program planning to develop a next generation pulsed power machine has begun in the Institute of Fluid Physics (IFP), China Academy of Engineering Physics. This facility can produce a maximum current over 50 MA with rise time (10%~90) about 125 ns. It consists of 3600 LTD cavities, 72 water-insulated coaxial transmission-line impedance transformers, bi-plate transmission-line impedance transformers, insulation stack of six levels, magnetically insulated transmission line system, gas switch trigger system, electrical signals monitor, central control system, insulation medium processing system, physical diagnosing system and radiation protection system. The physical parameters diagnostics including visible spectroscopy system, x-ray detecting system, imaging system, neutron yield diagnosing system and extremely high pulsed power laser system. Although the next generation pulsed power machine aims for implementation of inertial confinement fusion, it also a preferred platform to investigate the radiation effect, dynamic material property, and laboratory astrophysics.

In this talk, we will describe the next generation pulsed power machine program, and the past prominent results on the pulsed power technology and high-energy density physics at IFP. The future HEDP conditions which this facility would reach and the open-shared program will also be presented.
