Plasma wakefield acceleration using proton driver benefits the huge energy contents of the proton beam to accelerate a witness electron beam to high energies in a single acceleration stage. Advanced wakefield experiment (AWAKE) at CERN has already demonstrated key physics of electron acceleration in a self-modulated proton-driven plasma wakefield [1-5]. The current program, so-called AWAKE Run 2 [6] aims for a 5-10 GeV electron beam acceleration with the preserved beam quality, suitable for future particle physics applications.

Betatron radiation, however, is emitted due to the transverse force present in the ion cavity acting upon the electrons. It is therefore an intrinsic product associated with the electron acceleration process and this will generate betatron x-ray photons. In this work, we explore the parameter dependence of betatron x-ray generation in AWAKE Run 2 setup and future AWAKE program with particle-in-cell (PIC) simulations. The emitted betatron radiation can provide valuable information about the beam injection and acceleration process.
