With the accelerating process of industrialization, a large amount of waste residue and waste water are discharged, which seriously affects the safety of people's living environment. One of the ways to solve this problem is to treat waste water with solid waste. Therefore, FA was used as the raw material to prepare bulk porous geopolymer, a new potential low-cost alternative adsorbent material for copper ions removal in waste water with simple preparation process and low CO2 emissions. The effect of preparation conditions on material properties was investigated and batch adsorption tests were also carried out. The results show that the dosage of FA was higher than 92wt.%, FAPGM with 80.11% of porosity, 38.080m2/g of specific surface area and 0.886MPa of compression strength was obtained at the conditions that Si-Al ratio was 1.98, the modulus of sodium silicate was 1.9, the additive amount of hydrogen peroxide was 9wt.%, and the curing temperature was 80°C after the samples were dried in shade for a day. Adsorption test shows that FAPGM had good adsorption performance for copper ions, and the maximum equilibrium adsorption capacities were 62.58mg/g. The adsorption process followed the quasi-second-order adsorption kinetic model and Langmuir monolayer adsorption, suggesting it was chemical adsorption. The thermodynamic parameters ΔH, ΔS and ΔG suggested the spontaneous nature of copper adsorption on FAPGM and the endothermic behavior of sorption process.
