Coal mechanical properties are one of the important influencing factors of coal rock dynamic hazards, which are directly related to the production safety of mines. Four different coal samples were selected for nanoindentation experiments under different peak loading conditions to study the mechanical properties of coal rock at the fine scale. Combining with X-ray diffraction experiments and Keyence digital Microscope to analyze the influence of mineral components in coal on the mechanical properties of coal. The results show that the more non-homogeneous the coal sample is, the more dispersed the nanoindentation loading phase curve is. Loading-displacement curves can be observed as pop-in events with small load variation but increasing displacement variation, which is related to the presence of pores, layering in the mineral composition, and the formation of microscale and macroscale cracks. Different mineral content fillings lead to differences in the physical and mechanical properties of the coal body at the micro-nano scale, with clay minerals being looser and weakening the mechanical properties of the coal samples, while quartz and carbonate minerals strengthen the mechanical properties of the coal samples, and quartz inhibits crack extension. The microstructure and mechanical inhomogeneous characteristics of the coal body are also revealed, and the mechanism of crack expansion in the microstructure of coal samples is explored, which provides a theoretical basis for the prevention and control of dynamic disasters in coal mines.
