The renovation of small hydropower is of importance to the prospects of “double carbon” target. To analyze the water spillage of small hydropower caused by high precipitation, this paper first establishes a calculation model for water spillage of small hydropower based on the classification of different power generation scenarios using k-means clustering. Then, five kinds of commonly used Copula functions are applied to describe the correlation between cumulative precipitation and water spillage, on the basis of which the K-S test and the Euclidean distance test are carried out. Finally, the proposed model is applied to some small hydropower in the Southeastern part of China. The results indicate that Copula functions with symmetric tail correlations are more suitable for describing the correlation between cumulative precipitation and water spillage of small hydropower.
