In this paper, an all-metal metamaterial based dielectric constant sensor for microwave section of transformer oil condition is proposed. The resonator part of the sensor belongs to CSRR metamaterial structure. The sensing principle of the structure is realized by utilizing the electrical properties in the transformer oil. Because of the difference between waste transformer oil and clean oil, it will cause the resonant frequency of the resonator in the sensor to change. By detecting the resonant frequency of the sensor, the transformer oil condition can be detected. The dielectric constants of clean oil and waste oil samples are 2.9 and 2.7, respectively. The designed sensor is placed in the oil samples, and the transmission coefficient curves of the two oil samples are simulated, and the transmission coefficient S21 values are the smallest at 8.184 GHz and 8.486 GHz, respectively. Thus, the proposed sensor can distinguish between clean and waste transformer oil samples at a frequency of about 300 MHz.
