Combining phase transition properties of magnetorheological (MR) materials with control strategies in micro-scale systems is a crucial aspect in advancing the utilization of micro rotary mechanical systems. This study introduces a novel threshold-feedback overload protection strategy for a miniature turbine generator. Furthermore, sensorless control for the rotational speed of the miniature turbine generator is achieved by directly monitoring the frequency of the output voltage.A comprehensive model of the MR fluid-based threshold-feedback overload protection system is developed to elucidate its operational principles concerning rotational speed. Several threshold voltage values (Ur=4.0 V, 5.0 V, and 6.0 V) are employed to evaluate the effectiveness of the threshold-feedback overload protection control. The results indicate that the rotational speed can be regulated from 8333 r/min to 5312 r/min using a threshold voltage of 4.0 V. The experimental findings are well-supported by the proposed MR fluid-based threshold-feedback model. Furthermore, a favorable threshold-feedback overload protection effect is demonstrated even under start-up variable wind speed conditions. This research is anticipated to have a significant impact on expanding the functionalities and enhancing the performance of miniature turbine generators.
