In order to more effectively monitor partial discharges generated by gas-insulated combination appliances (GIS), a simulation study on the performance parameters of the built-in disk-type UHF sensor for GIS was carried out. Firstly, the simulation model of return loss parameter (S11) of the built-in UHF sensor and the effective height of the GHz transverse electromagnetic wave cell (GTEM) were established. The sensor design was optimized by analyzing the dependence of sensor disk diameter, dielectric constant, and short-circuit pin distance on sensor performance parameters. It is shown that for increasing disk diameter and the number of shorting pins, the resonant frequency of the sensor gradually decreases while the effective height decreases. As the permittivity is increased, the resonant frequency of the sensor gradually decreases, but the effective height increases. The resonant frequency of the sensor can be tuned, and the effective height can be optimized by properly tuning the diameter of the disc, the dielectric constant, and the number of short-circuiting pins of the sensor.
