Structural design of TBM compound power cutterhead based on high-pressure water jet assisted

In response to the frequent wear and failure of disc cutters during hard rock tunnel construction, the abrasive slurry jet is introduced into TBM to form a compound power cutterhead coupled with mechanical and hydraulic forces based on the load and wear reduction characteristics of high-pressure water jet. To this end, the influence of the depth of the slit cut by abrasive slurry jet and its lateral distance relative to the disc cutter on rock breaking performance of the latter was studied first, and then the position parameters of the water jet nozzle were reasonably allocated according to the layout of the disc cutter. The results indicate that the increase of the slit depth helps to reduce the load of the disc cutter, and the effect is more significant when the slit depth increases from zero to the penetration depth of the disc cutter. As the lateral distance and cutting speed of the disc cutter increase, the load of the disc cutter increases exponentially, and the increase of the latter will weaken the improvement of the slit depth on the load of the disc cutter and amplify the influence of the lateral distance on it. Therefore, it should be matched with a relatively deeper slit and a smaller lateral distance for disc cutters with larger installation radius. In contrast, for disc cutters with smaller installation radius, the lateral distance between the jet nozzle and the disc cutter can be set to 45mm to pursue higher economy.
