Abstract
In this research, we introduce an Empirical Orthogonal Function (EOF) strategy for reconstructing Equatorial F-region Irregularities (EFI) spanning latitude, longitude, and altitude dimensions based on Radio Occultation (RO) observations from the Macau Science Satellite-1 (MSS-1) and the Constellation Observing System for Meteorology, Ionosphere, and Climate follow-on mission (COSMIC-2). Our primary objective is to utilize the EOF technique for the three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction of EFI, aiming to establish a data-centered model for exploring ionospheric irregularities at a short-term climatological scale, particularly emphasizing the analysis of their temporal and spatial variations in a typical low-latitude zone. Through the EOF decomposition process, it is demonstrated that the EOF components capture a significant amount of EFI information conveyed in the original observational dataset. These components serve as the foundational elements for constructing a spatial-temporal model of EFI occurrence using RO-S4 observations. This integration of EOF decomposition with MSS-1 and COSMIC-2 RO observations provides an opportunity to enhance the vertical sounding of EFI.
