Abstract
The design of pulse-forming networks (PFNs) is critical for various applications in signal processing, such as pulse generation, signal shaping, and pulse compression. Traditional approaches to PFN design often rely on empirical methods or complex mathematical modeling, which can be limited in their flexibility and adaptability. In this paper, we propose a novel design methodology for PFNs based on time-domain synthesis of continuous-time systems. By utilizing the principles of time-domain synthesis, we can effectively design PFNs with arbitrary waveform outputs, offering greater flexibility and precision in pulse generation. Our approach is based on representing the desired pulse waveform as a periodic signal in the time domain and applying approximation techniques to achieve the realizable pulse waveform. The synthesis process takes into account the system constraints, such as amplitude, and delay, to ensure the generation of high-quality pulses. We provide design examples to demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method and compare it with other approaches. The results show that the designed PFNs can accurately generate the desired pulse waveforms with improved performance. The proposed methodology offers a promising alternative for the design and optimization of pulse-forming networks in various applications.
