Abstract
A series of compact repetitive pulsed power systems were developed in Institute of Fluid Physics, China Academy of Engineering physics in past 10 years. Some research results are discribed in this paper, such as big power repetitive high voltage supplys, compact Marx generators with low impedance, and repetitive PFN-Marx generators with high impedance. A compact high voltage power supply with positive and negative bipolar output was developed,whose weight is less than60 kg. It can charge a capacitor of 0.15uF to±45 kV voltage within 20ms, and the average charging power is greater than 15kW. An 18-stage compact Marx generator has been developed. It can generate a single pulse with peak pulse power of more than 33GW and pulse duration of 160 ns on the load of 18 Ω. The peak power density is up to 150 GW/m3. This high power device can work at the frequency of 10 Hz in burst pulses mode with peak power of 22 GW. Moreover, a coaxial compact Marx generator based on two–stage annular PFN modules was developed successfully in recent years. This PFN-Marx generator with 12 modules can output more than high power pulses of 500 kV on an load of 80 Ω. The length is 900mm and the diameter is 500mm. It can work consecutively and steady at the frequency of 20 Hz in 15 seconds.
