Abstract
With the rapid development of ultra-high voltage direct current (UHVDC) transmission technology and clean energy, the issue of dynamic reactive power shortage in the power grid has become increasingly serious. High-Temperature Superconducting Synchronous Condensers (HTS SC), with their low synchronous reactance and low excitation loss, offer excellent reactive power compensation performance, making them an ideal choice for modern power grids. This paper designs an excitation power supply for a 10 MVar HTS SC. Compared to traditional excitation power supplies, this design features low harmonics, bidirectional energy flow, and the capability to output a certain amount of reactive power. Additionally, a corresponding de-excitation module has been designed to address the quench challenge of superconducting field windings. The feasibility of the excitation system is verified using Matlab/Simulink simulation software.
