Abstract
Objective To explore the differences in the levels of Overgeneral Autobiographical Memory (OGM) between adolescents with and without a history of first-ever suicide attempts, to analyze the associations between OGM and the clinical characteristics of the two groups, to find out the risk factors for the occurrence of suicide attempts in adolescents with depressive disorder. Risk factors for the occurrence of suicide attempt behavior. Methods The 209 patients who met the diagnostic criteria for depressive disorders in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition were divided into a group with a history of suicide attempts (SA) and a group without a history of suicide attempt (SA), with 133 patients and a group without a history of suicide attempts (SA). There were 133 patients in the group with a history of suicide attempts (SA group) and 76 patients in the group without a history of suicide attempts (NSA group). A self-administered demographic questionnaire and clinical scales were used to collect clinical characteristics, and the Autobiographical Memory Test (AMT) paradigm was used to assess the OGM levels of the two groups, and the data obtained were analyzed by chi-square test, t-test, correlation analysis, and logistic regression analysis. Results Compared with the NSA group, the SA group, which was characterized by the father's low educational level, poor academic performance, and long duration of the disease, had higher levels of overall, positive, and neutral cue-word-induced OGM (P < 0.05); the patients' levels of overall, positive, and neutral cue-word-induced OGM were positively correlated with the SDS and the Beck's Suicidal Ideation Scale; and logistic regression analyses showed that the overall OGM levels (OR=1.16, p=0.04), and Bcek Suicidal Ideation Scale scores (OR=1.23, p<0.01) were associated with the occurrence of suicide attempts in adolescent patients with depressive disorders. Conclusion The present study found that high overall OGM levels with strong suicidal ideation in adolescent patients with depressive disorders were independent risk factors for the occurrence of suicide attempts. The above findings have important implications for clinical prevention and intervention of suicidal behavior in adolescent patients with depressive disorders.
