Abstract
Objective This study provides a reference for further research on the prevention and intervention of psychological crises in universities in the new era by systematically reviewing the basic situation, research hotspots, and trends of psychological crisis research among college students. Methods This study is based on 500 Chinese core, CSCD, and CSSCI journal articles on psychological crisis among college students published on China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) from 1994 to 2024. CiteSpace software was used to visualize the publication trends, authors, institutions and keywords of the papers. Results & Discussion The results showed that: (1) the annual publication volume fluctuated (see Figure 1), and there was loose cooperation between authors and institutions in research, with no obvious team collaboration. (2) Psychological crisis is a classic research topic in this field, and hot topics are greatly influenced by changes in the times and policy directions. It can be summarized into two aspects: "psychological crisis warning and intervention strategies" and "psychological crisis influencing factors". (3) Keywords emergence analysis reveal that the research process of psychological crisis of college students can be divided into three stages: the primary stage of research (1994-2009) mainly focused on exploring how to implement psychological crisis intervention. The emerging keywords in this 2 stage are crisis intervention, suicide, psychological crisis, intervention strategies, and social support. The proportion of published articles is 31%. The stage of vigorous exploration (2010-2015) focused on exploring psychological problems, instructors and vocational students. The emerging keywords in this stage are intervention, values, instructors, vocational students, and problems. The proportion of published articles is 44.8%. In depth promotion stage (2016-2024), this stage delves into the issue of psychological crisis warning and intervention for college students in the context of the new era. The emerging keywords in this stage are big data, psychological warning, psychological education, and mental health (see Figure 2). The proportion of published articles is 24.2%. The above three stages of development are interconnected, with the first stage providing necessary support for the development of the second stage, and the third stage deepening and expanding the previous stage. In addition, the research themes of each stage are closely integrated with the development stages of mental health education in Chinese universities and relevant national policy documents. Conclusions Psychological crisis, as a research field, is constantly breaking through, developing, and growing. Especially in recent years, with the continuous development of artificial intelligence and network big data analysis, more favorable tools have been provided for early warning and intervention of psychological crisis. Therefore, interdisciplinary, cross disciplinary, and cross directional cross-border cooperation is an inevitable research trend. There is a huge space for cooperation in the study of psychological crises. We should further strengthen the integration of research forces, achieve complementary advantages, and promote the progress and development of research on early warning and intervention of psychological crises.
