Abstract
In response to State Grid Corporation's requirement to standardize the parameters of line-side and transformer-side surge arresters, this study used simulation software to analyze the impact of this strategy on lightning overvoltage caused by lightning intrusion waves at ultra-high voltage substations. The results show that after reducing the parameters of the line-side surge arresters to match those of the transformer-side, the lightning overvoltage on key equipment such as the main transformer within the substation was significantly reduced, resulting in better protection. This study confirms that the unified surge arrester parameter strategy can effectively suppress lightning overvoltages while balancing operational overvoltage limits, supporting the comprehensive adoption of a unified parameter configuration scheme for surge arresters in this project. However, it should be noted that increased tower grounding resistance can still lead to elevated overvoltages, so special attention should be paid to the grounding resistance status of the first and second towers on the outgoing lines of the substation in the project.
