Analysis of Fault Characteristics of Damaged Armor Layer of Submarine Cables Based on Weak Magnetic Detection

Abstract
With the advancement of the "dual carbon" goals and the rapid development of new energy technologies, the construction of offshore wind farms has grown rapidly, and submarine cables, as key infrastructure, have been widely applied. Correct operation and maintenance of submarine cables are crucial for ensuring energy supply and promoting economic development. This paper uses weak magnetic detection technology to conduct an in-depth analysis of the damage faults in the armor layer of submarine cables. For a 35kV XLPE submarine cable, three detection areas were set up: a normal section, a section with minor anchor damage to the armor layer, and a section with severe anchor damage to the armor layer. An alternating current was injected to generate a magnetic field, and then a three-category feature extraction method composed of statistical morphology, frequency domain structure, and wavelet perturbation was constructed. Finally, the results of feature extraction were analyzed. The research results show that using magnetism to detect damage to the armor layer of submarine cables can identify minor damage in the early stage of faults, allowing for timely repair measures to be taken, thereby extending the service life of submarine cables and improving their reliability.
