Abstract
In this study, the heat transfer performance (HTP) of two-phase closed thermosyphon (TPCT) with vortex generator (VG) is numerically simulated. The phase change dynamics and HTP of TPCT with various VG shapes and positions were studied. It is discovered that the shapes and positions of VGs have significant variations in boiling and condensation performance. The boiling process is more intense for the water-TPCT. Dropwise condensation is observed in all TPCTs equipped with various VG shapes. The nucleation density of droplets varies with the shapes of VG. The VG performs better in terms of HTP when it is placed in the condenser and adiabatic sections as opposed to the evaporator section. In addition, the highest HTP occurs with a trapezoidal VG positioned in the condenser section. Conversely, a diamond-shaped VG placed in the evaporator section results in the poorest performance. The present study contributes to improving the HTP of TPCT in the future.
