The role of the Langmuir decay instability (LDI) as a secondary instability in driving the saturation of stimulated Raman side scattering (SRSS) is investigated through theoretical analysis and numerical simulations. In the SRSS process, an incident electromagnetic wave decays into two symmetric side-scattering light waves and an obliquely propagating Langmuir wave. Both theory and simulations show that LDI develops between these Langmuir waves, transferring their energy to ion acoustic waves and thereby leading to the saturation of the side scattering. Furthermore, the density inhomogeneities induced by the ion acoustic waves effectively suppress the growth of SRSS, maintaining it at a relatively low level. This saturation mechanism dominates the side-scattering saturation in the regime where \(k\lambda_D<0.2\).
