Abstract
Spatial magnetic-field reference data are needed to develop and evaluate models for identifying and locating adjacent submarine power cables. This study establishes a frequency-domain finite-element model of two parallel three-core armoured cables and characterises the root-mean-square magnetic flux density at different distances and observation directions. Current constraints are checked for all physical conductors, while mesh refinement and outer-domain comparisons assess numerical sensitivity. Cross-sectional field maps, radial profiles, and the profile along the line joining the cable centres are examined together with interval-averaged spatial rates of change. The resulting relationships between observation position and magnetic response provide a physical basis for forward-model development, spatial feature selection, and subsequent evaluation of dual-cable identification and localisation algorithms.
