Abstract
Configuration Risk Management (CRM) is a risk-informed approach that uses Living Probabilistic Safety Assessment (Living PSA) models to evaluate risks arising from equipment unavailability, maintenance activities, and configuration changes in nuclear power plants. This paper provides a technical summary of CRM activities promoted by the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Center, Ministry of Ecology and Environment, China. It summarizes the engineering logic linking plant configuration, risk assessment, risk thresholds, Allowed Configuration Time (ACT), Risk Management Actions (RMAs), and feedback updating. Instantaneous and cumulative risks are discussed as complementary dimensions of risk level and risk exposure over time. The paper also reviews the engineering meaning of risk thresholds, the role and model boundaries of risk monitors, and key considerations for digital implementation. The emphasis is on how CRM converts PSA-based risk insights into operational response, maintenance planning, and configuration recovery, thereby supporting the continued engineering application of CRM in nuclear power plant operation and maintenance.
