The paper concentrates on an efficiency improving of the boost power factor correctors (PFC). The efficiency of the PFC can be improved by several ways. We concentrated on replacement of the boost diode. We replaced Silicon PIN Ultra Fast Diode by Silicon carbide barrier Schottky diode which has a better dynamic performance. In the study, we compared forward voltages of these diodes to estimate conduction and switching losses. As a result, the conduction losses are almost same but the switching losses of the SiC Barrier Schottky Diodes are significantly smaller due to very small junction charge of these diodes. The measured data represents the efficiency improving of the corrector which used SiC Barrier Schotky Diode. The measurement shows that the efficiency of the corrector grew up approximately by 2 %. As a next step, we tried to replace the boost diode by a transistor but we did not get a relevant data due to the power driver troubles.
