Cognitive radio is considered as one of the prominent solutions to improve spectrum utilization via opportunistic spectrum access. Polarization modulation technology can provide new ways to enhance channel capacity by using different polarizations to carry information. In this paper, we present an implementation of polarization modulation (PM) for cognitive radio using GNU Radio and USRP (Universal Software Radio Peripheral). The results show that the BER of the system is improved with the increase of the modulation order and the performance of PM with channel estimation algorithms is effectively increased.
