Image Authentication is a technique for protecting digital images from being tampered so that the integrity of images can be preserved. Most image authentication schemes proposed so far are mainly non-reversible in that the marked image cannot be recovered to its original one. Hu et al. in 2014 proposed a novel reversible image authentication scheme for digital images. Their method not only detects tampered blocks but also recovers the marked image to original image if the marked image is un-tampered. However, Hu et al.’s method fails to detect the changes in brightness where pixels in blocks are added or subtracted by a constant. We propose an improved version of Hu et al.’s method such the tampering by changing the brightness can also be detected. The experiments show that the proposed method has better detectability than Hu et al.’s method while providing a comparable image quality.
