In order to deal with the asymmetric deformation and instability of narrow coal pillar gob-side entry driving, the theory of Mohr–Coulomb criterion, modified Hoek-Brown criterion and rigid-supported composite beams are used to discover the instability mechanism of roadway surrounding rock and to establish the coupling support model of roadway. Under the support of the coupling model, the roadway coupling support technical measures including high strength truss + anchor rope + grouting bolt and prestressed co-support of anchoring bolt and cable are applied to control the roadside and roof of narrow coal pillar tunnel which with the width of 5m respectively in the fully-mechanized caving faces of wangzhuang coal mine. Using the method of FLAC3D simulation and field monitoring, the reliability of coupling support model of roadway is conformed. With the help of coupling support model, engineering practice gain good results that maximum deformation of tunnel in driving process is 38mm and maximum deformation of tunnel in next section mining process is 500mm.
