Lung Cancer Detection System Using Microwaves

This paper presents a new technique of detecting lung infection or lung cancer in a human body i.e. Microwave Bio-Imaging. In this technique reflections of incident microwave are studied to detect and analyze the anomaly occurring inside the body parts. These reflections occur due to different dielectric properties of normal and affected tissues. A Vivaldi antenna is employed to achieve high resolution imaging system with dimensions 94x44x9.14mm operating for a frequency range of 0.5-10GHz. The antenna results are studied to analyze the size and position of cancer tissue. This imaging system has several advantages over the other imaging methods that are low implementation cost, good resolution, early diagnosis, and non-ionizing properties of microwaves and simplicity of the system.
