Wireless sensor networks consist of a large number of sensor nodes, which are randomly deployed in the network. These nodes are small, low power nodes with different capabilities like sensing, computing and wireless communications. Since they have limited battery lifetime, there is a need to provide an efficient algorithm that provides higher network lifetime for the given amount of available energy. The proposed enhanced energy efficient Leach (EEE-LEACH) routing algorithm reduces the energy consumption in the network by using MIMO technology and a shortest path algorithm which provides the shortest path for data transmission in fading channel. The comparative analysis of energy efficiency and network lifetime in terms of LND, HND and FND of EEE-LEACH algorithm shows improvement by 24.30%, 44.24% and 44.31% as compared to EE-LEACH-MIMO. The simulation results have proved that EEE–LEACH algorithm is more energy efficient than EE-LEACH-MIMO.
