In the last decade, the aeronautical authorities ex-pressed their need to develop a new system for aeronautical radio communications. The L-band Digital Aeronautical Communication System (L-DACS) is the part of the future system and orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) has been a candidate technology for it. Meanwhile, the Distance Measuring Equipment (DME) is also operating in the aeronautical L-band. In this paper, taking LTE for example which is the prospective technology for aeronautical radio communications, we establish an aeronautical LTE communication link model and study the DME impact on it through analyzing the coexistence scenario between them. This paper presents the Monte Carlo simulation methodology for coexistence study and provides the results of the performance degradation of aeronautical LTE system. It can be of significance in providing reference for specific aeronautical LTE network deployment in practice and evaluating interferences with other aeronautical radio communication systems.
