In this paper, a new metamaterial unit cell is proposed where two mirrored S-shaped resonators are crossed with each other perpendicularly. The proposed unit cell exhibits negative refractive index irrespective of the polarization of the incident wave and also keeps the unit cell planar. By comparing the results for differently polarized incident waves it is shown that the proposed metamaterial unit cell is polarization-insensitive.
