In wireless sensor networks, the data transmission is not reliable due to various propagation effects, which increases the error rate and thereby affects the energy efficiency. When energy is lost, the lifetime of wireless sensor networks is greatly affected. A reliable link can be established using different schemes like Automatic Repeat Request (ARQ) and with some block error correction codes such as cyclic, Bose Chaudhuri and Hocquenghem (BCH) codes. In this paper, we consider a chaotic sequence instead of normal Pseudo Noise (PN) sequence in IEEE 802.15.4 RF transceiver. Chaotic sequences can be generated using simple chaotic maps. The simulations are done to measure the energy efficiency and bit error rate (BER), when chaotic sequences are used. This is done to check the performance of these sequences in a ZigBee transceiver. In future, the analysis will also be extended to study the effect of interferers like Bluetooth, WLAN,etc. and the performance of WSN in the interference environment will be studied.
