This paper involves the analysis of bit error rate (BER) of wireless sensor network comprising of IEEE 802.15.4 transceiver as sensor nodes. The goal is to show how interference in an indoor and outdoor environment affects the wireless network by analyzing bit error rate (BER) of IEEE 802.15.4 transceiver with SNR of the signal. For analysis purpose direct sequence spread spectrum- offset quadrature phase shift keying (DSSS-OQPSK) modulation under 2.4GHz frequency band in a WSN is considered for IEEE 802.15.4 transceiver. Hard board, Concrete Wall and Floor partition are considered as the building material for analyzing Zigbee performance in an indoor by obtaining path loss of these materials. For outdoor environment Improved Gaussian Approximation concept is used and numerical results for BER are obtained by varying the IEEE 802.15.4 standard specific physical layer parameters, denoted as α and m, respectively.
