Survey on the Nonlinearity of Boolean Functions

Boolean functions play an important role in the construction of symmetric key ciphers such as stream ciphers and block ciphers. This is because they are able to provide ciphers with strengthening properties to resist known and potential cryptanalytic attacks. One of the main cryptographic properties required by strong Boolean functions is nonlinearity. Boolean functions must have high nonlinearity to withstand linear and correlation attacks. This paper focuses on upper or lower bound of nonlinearity of different types of Boolean functions such as resilient function, Carlet-feng function, MAI function, bent function, Tu-deng function etc.
