Payoff-based Dynamic Segment Replication Policy in Distributed VOD Systems

In spite of the improvement brought by recent research on load balancing in video on demand (VOD) system it still as problem of actuality. In this paper we propose a payoff-based dynamic segment replication policy called P-DSR which instead of replicating the entire video file, it divides it into several segments then selects the segments with thehighest payoff which can rebalance load faster and consequently reduces rejection rate and improve the system response time. Achieved results prove that our approach reach the desired aim even with a low number of segments.
