Ferroelectric Tunable Phase Shifter with optimized interdigital electrodes up to 100 GHz

A continuously monolithic phase shifter is presented based on right handed transmission line theory. The circuit uses interdigital capacitors to achieve phase shift function. The structure of the ferroelectric phase shifter has been optimized, which is obtained by analyzing of insertion loss and phase shift degree under different interdigital structures. The change of distributed capacitance lead to changes in insertion loss and phase shift degree at the same time. The focus of this work is to seek a balance between the two. The final optimized phase shifter has a length of 0.75 mm for 203.7 ◦ phase shift at 100 GHz, and it has a figure of merit of up to 43.1 ◦/dB.
