In shaft-less drive gravure printing machines, each gravure printing roller is driven by an individual servo motor. The register accuracy is an important performance indicator for gravure printing process, and it is based on the stability and accuracy of the web tension between the printing rollers. Therefore, the mathematical model of the web tension between two adjacent printing rollers is studied for the shaft-less drive gravure printing machines in this paper. According to the working principle, the tension model between two adjacent printing rollers is derived, and then it is analyzed deeply from three different aspects. Some numerical simulations are carried out to verify the tension model. It shows that the simulation results are in accord with the analysis and the established tension model is reliable.
