Design of Frequency Reconfigurable Antenna based on Metasurface

A novel frequency reconfigurable antenna based on metasurface is proposed in this paper. The antenna, namely metasurface antenna, is made by a patch antenna covered with a metasuface in which numerous elliptical unit cells arranged periodically. The frequency reconfiguration can be realized by rotating the meatsurface mechanically. Measured results, consistent with simulation ones, show ninety degree rotation can make resonant frequency changing from 4.52GHz to 5.31GHz. Antenna gain can reach 6.8dBi. The metasurface antenna has the advantages of low profile, high gain and no active jamming.
