The spectrum is the most crucial resource in today’s world of modern wireless communication. The most of the spectrum under licensed category have already been allocated for licensed users. Therefore the remaining unlicensed bands are of high demand. One of such unlicensed industrial, scientific and medical (ISM) band falls under Personal Area Networking services governed by the standard IEEE802.15.4. This standard mainly features the three different frequency bands 868MHz, 915MHz and 2450MHz for physical layer implementation. Each of the band will support varied data rate with different digital modulation techniques as shown in table 1. It is necessary to have a reprogrammable multi band/multi modem transceiver in order to support both regional and global frequency bands usage with a one product. The purpose of this work is to exploit the reconfigurability feature of SDR to give the required solution. The reprogrammable SDR has ability to navigate over wide range of frequencies with programmable frequency band and modulation characteristics. The design of reconfigurable modem is implemented using Matlab/Simulink tool.
